Star Trek and science [ edit ]

The universe that we have is often more wondrous and bizarre than even our wildest science fiction dreams can imagine. star The nature and composition of the tiniest quanta of matter, the origin and fate of the universe, and the unseen, dark components of reality are all examples of scientific facts that no one could have imagined. Of all the inspired dreams that humanity has had about where our technological and scientific advances would take us, star trek has perhaps been the most visionary.

In the sci-fi series "star trek," spaceships rapidly travel from one part of the universe to another using warp drives. The speed of light in a vacuum is about 186,282 miles per second (299,792 kilometers per second). In " gifts for star trek fans star trek novelty gifts star trek coffee mug ," a warp factor of 1 is light speed, and a warp factor of 9. 9 is more than 2,000 times greater than light speed.

Plot[ edit ] the federation starship enterprise arrives at the planet gideon to discuss diplomatic relations. The gideons will permit only one representative, captain kirk , to set foot on their planet. Kirk beams down to the coordinates provided, but finds himself apparently still aboard the enterprise, which is now devoid of any crew. review

"jimmy doohan was a hearty, down-to-earth guy. Now, he will be more than that. He has asked that his remains be shot out to space. That is so you, jimmy. When all of us who loved you look up at the vastness of the twinkling night sky, we'll know that you are truly there among the stars, beaming down at us from the heavens with that wonderful, sparkling smile of yours. ".

Without warning or provocation an alien weapon appears above earth and unleashes a blast that kills millions across two continents. A second such weapon could destroy the entire planet. In a desperate bid to save earth and its people, starfleet must change its mission from one of peaceful exploration to one of military service. Only the starship enterprise is fast enought to stop the production of a second xindi weapon. But the crew cannot do it alone, and captain jonathan archer accepts a contingent of military assault command operations personnel -- battle-hardened soldiers known as macos -- on board his ship. Starfleet and the macos are two very different services sharing a common goal, but divided in their views of how to attain it. It is a culture clash that echoes across centuries of military service. The men and women on board the enterprise understand that somehow they must succeed in working together or the price will be paid in blood -- failure is not an option.

Planets are celestial bodies orbiting a star or stars. Most intelligent species evolved and still live on planets, including their respective homeworlds and colonies. For more information, please see the main article about planets. The following is a list of all planets – more specific lists are linked to from the main article.

Arretians. The arretians were a technologically advanced race of warp-capable humanoids from the planet arret in the alternate universe. Captain kirk and the crew of the enterprise visited arret in 2370 after being pulled into the alternate universe by arretian scientist karla five's high warp starship. Arretians aged backwards and so karla 5's son, karl four, looked much older than she was, and her father looked like an infant. ( "the counter-clock incident" ).

Chapter one: in space no one can fry an egg the officers' mess of the starship uss enterprise was a small, rather cozy room, with comfortable chairs, moderately bright lighting, and a food-service wall with four delivery slots, no waiting. This morning, two officers entered the room, dropped briefing folders marked top secret onto the table, and approached the service wall.

The rigel system consisted of three stars: the primary was rigel a , while rigel b and c orbited each other a great distance away, so far away that they counted as a separate system, rigel bc. All three were blue-white stars , barely more than 100,000 years old, which was quite young by astronomical standards.

The Inner Light ( Star Trek: The Next Generation )

The latest episode of star trek: picard featured the return of one of the best parts of star trek, and no, i don’t mean seven of nine. episode In “stardust city rag,” picard and his ragtag crew do cross paths with the iconic voyager character on their quest to find bruce maddox, an expert on artificial life forms. But the return i’m referring to isn’t a reformed borg but a delightful trek trope: zany costumed personas.

Star Trek 50th Anniversary

As star trek beyond beams into cinemas this friday, test your knowledge of the big screen franchise from the very beginning.

Of course, many of you are already aware that star trek is a work of fiction; the people and aliens on the show are all actually human beings from earth, utilizing a complex method of lie-telling called “acting” to convey other ideas. The jupiter 8 is no different, as it is an earth-built car called the reactor , and is simply acting like the jupiter 8. Neat, right?.

Star trek slash community + add your site (25 members) dedicated to the slash relationships of the star trek universe. Due to several inapropriate sites being submited i set up a few guide lines. A:your site must have something to do with startrek. Don't submit if all you have is, i like startrek. B:slash means same sex relationships depicted in pictures, fanfic, etc. Don't submit pages that have nothing to do with slash. I will accept link pages, episode guides and such if i think community users might find them of interest or use.

I think it was back in 2013 there were a bunch of posts on medium about the economics of star trek by some very smart people. I happen to have a couple of friends who used to work on the show, and we knocked out a few beers and were like, "hey, have you seen those?" and we started looking around for an actual book that covered the whole subject, and didn't find anything. My friend who used to be a writer on star trek said, "why don't you do it?".

Episode 1: Q & A

Probably worth including, as honorable mentions, the various spinoffs that tie directly into specific episodes from the show: the wrath of khan (movie, 1982): unlike 1979's the motion picture, which felt largely disconnected from the original show, this movie is a direct sequel to “space seed” and features numerous callbacks both to the episode and tos in general. Besides montalban’s khan, it features the return of john winston as tos semi-regular mr. Kyle (who also appeared in the 1970s animated series, voiced by james doohan). Envisioned as a coda for tos, since it was assumed nobody wanted to return for a sequel, but it effectively helped transform the franchise from a cult tv show to an unstoppable media powerhouse.

I use the word "ignore" like "don't know". Apparently it have a different meaning. Sorry for that. – gbman yesterday thank you for your answers for the three first questions. I asked 4 instead of one it's not fair;) you're right, i forgot this point in ds9. It's not the same century but it's fine enough for me. It's true, sometimes, an alien must explain a specificity of his species to a starfleet character, but i'm not sure this fact tell us if the federation ask or not if a civilization meets certain eligibility criteria to join the federation. And you're right again, in the episode "the hunted" we clearly see the investigations are not very thorough – gbman yesterday.

James t. Kirk is obsessed. How do we know he's obsessed? well, he has a persistent and unflagging commitment to an idea that may not be entirely worthy of such a commitment. (it's an evil mist. Quick, to the de-humidifier!) mccoy and spock are both helpful in mentioning the problems with this; mccoy, in fact uses the very word. As does kirk. And hey, it's even the title of the episode, so if you ever experience a moment of confusion—is kirk irritated? nauseous? infatuated?—simply check the episode guide on the appropriate season, and you'll find the answer staring you in the face: "obsession. " this one is for the cheap (non-jewelry rattling) seats.
